Ultimate Kitchen Cheat Sheets!

I (obviously) love to cook and do it all the time. You’d think by now I’d have most kitchen conversion information memorized. But while I can remember the basics (like 3 teaspoons equal 1 Tablespoon), I can never remember that 16 Tablespoons equals 1 cup, or that 2 cups are in a pint. Although technology makes looking up conversion easy, it’s also a hinderance because I have to wash and dry my hands just to search conversion information. I finally got tired of all my mini research sessions and decided to make a conversion chart. While I was at it, I figured why not make some other cheat sheets that could be helpful. In the end, I’ve created 5 pages total, which I’m calling The Ultimate Kitchen Cheat Sheet Bundle!

The Ultimate Kitchen Cheat Sheet Bundle

No matter what you’re cooking, this kitchen cheat sheet bundle has the information you need! I created pages for measurement conversions, how to cook different cuts of meat, a cooking times cheat sheet for veggies and grains, a fridge shelf life guide, and even a freezer shelf life guide! That’s a lot of info in 5 letter size pages!

I suggest putting your pages in a recipe binder that you keep in the kitchen for easy access. Another option would be placing them in document protectors held together by an O-ring and hang them on a hook in your kitchen, a cabinet or in your cupboard. Just put them somewhere that will allow you to reference them quickly so you won’t lose any of your cooking/baking momentum!

Measurement Conversions

If I had to guess, I’d say cooks/chefs look up measurement conversions most often. I look up measurement conversions for various reasons. I might be halving a recipe or a recipe calls for a measurement that doesn’t match with my measuring tools. I used to think that some chefs were just making things arbitrarily more difficult by calling for 1.5 Tablespoons of ingredients. Apparently some measuring spoons are sold in the 1.5 Tablespoon measurement, but I didn’t know that, and all I had was a regular 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon. I was constantly looking up how many teaspoons were in a Tablespoon to figure out that elusive 1.5 Tablespoon measurement (for those who are curious, 1.5 Tablespoons = 1 Tablespoon + 1.5 teaspoons). Now that I have my kitchen cheat sheets, I can quickly glance at the measurement conversions to figure things like that out!

How to Cook Different Meat Cuts

It’s not just grilling enthusiasts who need to know the details about different cuts of meat! Every cut comes from a different part of the animal. Therefore every cut has a different texture and different ways that it is best prepared. Cooking some cuts the wrong way and you may drain out the flavor, or even make a traditionally moist cut turn into something dry and chewy. With meat costing what it does, it makes sense to spend a second reviewing my kitchen cheat sheet to avoid ruining the cut!

Vegetable + Grain Cooking Times

Nobody wants soggy veggies or crunchy rice. But depending on what you’re cooking, it’s easy to overcook or undercook by a few minutes and ruin the whole thing. This doesn’t happen as often with grains because they tend to come in packages with cooking instructions. But what if you took advantage of the bulk food section at your grocery store? You might be standing in the kitchen staring at the pound of quinoa you just bought and realize that you don’t know how to cook it. Besides that, few veggies come with any sort of cooking tips on their tags. If you’ve never cooked beetroots, how would you know that it could take up to 45 minutes of roasting to cook them properly? This is where a handy kitchen cheat sheet like mine comes in!

Fridge Shelf Life Guide

Knowing how long food lasts in the fridge is pretty important. Who wants to plan a meal only to realize your main ingredient has spoiled because it exceeded its fridge shelf life? It’s also handy to know if you need to eat or freeze something now so you can get to it before it spoils (and you waste money as a result). While some foods like mustard can be in the fridge for up to a year with no issues, foods like soft cheeses have a week or two before it has to be thrown out. Of course, fridge shelf life varies based on the freshness of the food when it was purchased, how well protected it is from the air, moisture content, and how cold/well ventilated your fridge is. But still, all the foil in the world won’t keep a piece of raw meat fresh for two months!

Freezer Shelf Life Guide

I used to believe that freezer food could last for a lifetime. Although food put in the freezer does extend the life of your ingredients, it still has a shelf life as you’ll see from my kitchen cheat sheet. For example, carrots in the fridge usually last about 2 weeks before they start looking funny. But a bag of frozen carrots can stay in the freezer for a whole year with no issues! You do want to watch out for freezer burn, though, as it can cut your food’s lifetime short. While technically freezer burned food is safe to eat, it looks odd and tastes weird. You can avoid it by not freezing your food when it’s still hot from the oven and by ensuring your food is wrapped and sealed tight. There’s nothing wrong with wrapping something in foil, then putting it in a plastic freezer storage bag for a second layer of protection!
